McDonald’s Plc is an instantly recognisable brand with its iconic golden arches, over 120,000 employees in the UK and more than 40,000 restaurants globally. Whilst many of the company’s restaurants are fully owned by the business, many are franchised.
Their main focus is to provide great tasting food, made from high quality ingredients with service that their customers know and trust.
The Challenge
McDonald’s employ a team of Franchisee Consultants whose purpose is to provide support, guidance and challenge to their Franchisees. Part of this role includes reviewing each restaurant’s financials in depth and asking the right questions to guide their Franchisees to financial success.
This team needed a finance course that would quickly give them a fully comprehensive understanding of the financial statements as a foundation before moving onto analysing and interrogating their own financial reports.
The Solution
We spent time with the McDonald’s Finance team to learn their very specific financial terminology, understand their internal financial reports and to be clear on the role of the Franchisee Consultants. As financial experts ourselves, we were able to quickly get to grips with everything.
Our solution started with our highly interactive financial simulation as a starting point, applying the core concepts to the McDonald’s business. We designed a step-by-step progress from this, building up to undertaking a full evaluation of their own financial data.
The Result
A tailored workshop that brings energy, interaction and real value to their business. Inviting members of their Finance team to join each session demonstrates our true partnership approach and we have been told that we seamlessly merge with their business.
Course participants are leaving the sessions understanding key financial concepts, comfortably drawing links between restaurant operations and the financials. They now feel far more confident in driving financial conversations. We are delighted that McDonald’s continues to invite us back to develop their people on an ongoing basis.
