The Challenge
We were invited to undertake a detailed learning needs analysis to fully understand the financial learning requirements for a global group of time-pressured Operations Directors.
The challenge put in front of us was delivering a course to help develop the participants’ skills so that they are able to improve their financial knowledge and what they can do to better inform their actions that impact on the financial areas of the business.
The Solution
Following our analysis, our solution was to create a bespoke blended learning package. This incorporated pre- and post-course digital learning, plus a simulation-style workshop including case studies and facilitated by a trainer over two days. And we finished it off with post-event coaching to support the implementation of actions off the back for the course created specifically for Johnson Matthey.
This combination of different methods enabled us to help Johnson Matthey to improve the financial capabilities of this time-pressured global senior team. Many commented that the variety of learning opportunities and methods really helped this critical financial knowledge to stick, enabling them to make even better decisions in their roles.
The Result
Our relationship with Johnson Matthey has continued to blossom. Our highly-tailored, simulation-based Finance for non-Financial people workshop remains part of their annual development programme.
Our success with enhancing the financial acumen of people working outside of finance has led to their Finance team asking us to work with them too, focusing on covering technical areas including hedging, metal accounting and group reporting.
