The Challenge
Our initial meeting with them highlighted that this was a business looking for a consistent approach to large-scale investments and was keen to upskill middle and senior managers. They required a bespoke training programme to fill in the gaps in knowledge for building powerful business cases for their brand.
We worked with a number of internal stakeholders to identify issues with the business case process and to clarify the outcomes that were required.
The Solution
Following the analysis, we recommended a two-stage approach. We gathered a large amount of internal information and used this to design a short pre-course e-learning module and a two-day simulation-style workshop.
The e-learning was designed to ensure that all participants had an understanding of the fundamental concepts of business cases so that they could hit the ground running during their two days with us. This included introducing the topic and a few key messages to the participants before the workshop commenced.
A two-day workshop followed. The scenario-based first day walked participants through critical aspects of effective business case creation. Day two put everything into practice with participants building a business case based on a real-life Tate & Lyle scenario.
The Result
Participants presented their business cases and recommendations to members of their executive investment committee who had been primed to offer both positive and constructive feedback.
Executives have told us that they are hugely inspired by the standard of business cases created in this short space of time and that the business benefits of these courses were clear. We are proud that we have been able to deliver this course globally for Tate & Lyle.
This programme was a resounding success and has since been rolled out in Europe and the USA.
